How to play Memory Pairs

Start Memory Pairs by looking at the playing area and its controls. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Look at what changes after your first action. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Review a difficult moment

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Read that aim before choosing your first action. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

Turn over one card, remember its position, then choose a second. A matching pair stays found; a mismatch is hidden again. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
